Where have you been?
The Lurker is Active Again?
Been a long time since I've actively posted a journal here, hasn't it? Most people likely thought I abandoned this place, and frankly, I can't blame them. In some ways I did become quite distant to DA, but I always came back every so often to check messages. A "lurker".Why are you back?
As I'm approaching my college graduation, connections to people in the art community have become even more important than even the degree itself. Art is not just about voicing your opinions or your vision, it is so much more than that. It took some time to realize this, as simple as it may seem and I have come to the conclusion that leaving this page to no one does no one any good. By keeping up with friends and visitors alike here, I hope to make more wonderful friends and help them along the way as I am able. What has changed, what is the same?
In the past few years, I have taken steps to learn some Spanish. I am not proficient, by any means, but I hope to improve on that. By expanding what languages are available, hopefully my tutorials will be of more use to a larger audience. Ideally, I would love to go through my old tutorials and update them to be in available in Spanish and English.
On a more personal note:
My cat Shadow died last November. I can't pretend it has been easy, or even just 'hard', but I did what I could for him. He had a blockage in him that was too dangerous to remove and slowly he couldn't eat or digest food very well anymore. Even when he was dying he curled up next to me on his favorite blankets. I think he was comforted by us being there for him.
The same week Shadow died, I was involved in a car accident through no fault of my own. I was sitting at a stop light when someone didn't notice that a line of cars were parked at the light and smacked into me at ~40mph. My car lurched forward and hit the car in front of mine. My brother and I had whiplash and my right knee got hurt, and still isn't the same. Ultimately, my car was totaled from all this. Not a great start to my week, needless to say.
At the very least, that same week I also managed to get a job. Of course... that ended up getting delayed slightly by not having a vehicle to get there anymore plus the injuries. But they were understanding and work has been good every since. I am now a press operator and finisher at a factory that makes silicone, plastic, and metal parts.
For those that have been around long enough to remember, I was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. So far things have been going well and with luck on December 1st 2016, 5 years since my date of diagnosis, I'll finish remission and be cured. Fingers crossed! What should we expect?
Once my last class is finished this semester and I finish my Associates in Fine Arts, I will go through all my resources and update them since it has come to my attention many times that some issues have shown up. (In particular to the Manga Studio files which most likely are just outdated now.)
More resource packs are to come as well. Some requests have come in over the years for what kinds they could use, but if there are any in particular that sound good, please leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.
I also plan to host a once per week, at least once per month, art stream on Picarto. Whether it's art for a tutorial or just art for myself, I want to get in the habit of drawing more. Hopefully I'll see you there!
How to draw Moths and Butterflies part 2 is still a project I have set aside that I would love to finish. So far, one of the drawings that will be featured in this has been recorded and was posted on YouTube.
At some point I will make an official artist's website under my actual name, rather than my ign Mysticalpchan, as a sort of official portfolio. And finally...
I wanted to thank everyone that has been there to support me all these years.
Thank you so much for everything, lets look forward to good times ahead!
